"Composite Image"

What is a composite image? Let's start by tackling the definition of each of those words independently. Composite is defined as being made up of many, separate parts; a compound. An image is defined as many different things depending on what type of image it is like ideas versus photographs, but I think we all know what an image is. So a composite image could mean likeness or representation of an idea being made of many parts. In the example I have posted below, you'll see that I have made a likeness of a head but made of many different images of fruits and vegetables. These, are composite images:

If you notice, they seem to make faces but each part is an image in and of itself. Gestalt psychology allows us to see the faces due to familiar patterns and the power that our brains have in making sense of what we see. Not every composite image looks like these. Some look quite normal. Again, a composite image is just simply and image made of other images.

There's a pretty popular article about a very important topic which is pictured in a composite image.
The Article Can Be Seen Here.
It talks about the new, 2012, composite image that NASA made fo our planet. The article explains that nasa took a series of swaths of the Earth's surface to compose the image. It's also the most detailed picture of the earth as of yet.

There are a few artists out there that are really good at making composite images. One that comes to mine is the artist, Cyriak. His works are mostly animations and are always strange, wacky, and sometimes disturbing. Some of Cyriaks work can be seen on his YouTube Channel.
Go check it out to see the power that composite images can have.

Also, the website http://www.rathergood.com/ is mostly composite animations, too and they are the ones responsible for that awful Quiznos Subs commercial... you know the one.
